Don't worry: it was so subtle that you probably hardly notice it, but the BMW iX1 has a slightly different design.
In BMW land there are no facelifts, but there are Life Cycle Impulses or LCIs. Do further BMW often the same as what other brands would do with a facelift: a slightly different design, mainly new technology (you want to give the life cycle a boost) and some small stuff.
New design
Sometimes, just sometimes, you don't have to wait for the LCI to get an updated design. Take the BMW iX1. The latest generation (U11) debuted in 2022 and is still as fresh as a daisy in terms of design, at least according to BMW. Except for one aspect.
Namely the good old BMW 'toaster grille' with its large, pronounced vertical bars. Which, by the way, is closed on the BMW iX1 and the bars especially look as if they are real. It gives the iX1 a somewhat 'normal' appearance, which seems to be on par with the petrol version. Do you want that? Now that a grille is actually just a kind of flat canvas, you can do something fun with it for the electric version.
New grille
Anyone who configures a BMW iX1 will probably notice that the vertical grille is gone. Instead, BMW has turned it into something of a work of art, with triangle shapes that keep getting bigger.
This makes the iX1 more recognizable than the X1 as the electric version. It also aligns the X1 with the new X2, which was designed that way anyway.
Secretly
As if it were a pop song by Maan and Goldband, the change was quite sneaky. We make it sound like news, but it fell BMWBlog now beware because of a post on social media. There are even press photos of it, which date from sometime in 2023. You can also buy a few 'used cars' in the Netherlands with this grille, although they are very recent models. But it has been like that for a while now, about the same as the X2.
And finally: the grille also debuted on the Chinese BMW iX1 LWB. So there were plenty of hints that it was possible, but it actually happened.
A special piece of design, where even a piece of the grille design of the BMW iX1 is swallowed up by the radar for the cruise control. Did you know or are we opening your eyes now?
