The series that came out in February has been the FX channel’s most watched series of all time in terms of worldwide streaming hours. Disney owns FX, and in Finland Shogun is available to watch on Disney+.
The news about the sequel is on the one hand surprising, on the other hand not. Published in the spring The Hollywood Reporter – magazine, the main writers of the series indirectly said that Shogun remains in one production season.
Set in 17th century Japan, the series is based on of James Clavell (1924–1994) to the novel and the first season covers the entire story of the book.
In May however, it was rumoredthat Shogun might compete in the Emmy gala for the best drama series and not the miniseries award category, which gave reason to doubt that there would be a sequel in the picture.
The series has been hugely popular, so there is certainly demand for new seasons. of the Shōgun the first episodes were watched According to Disney within a week nine million times worldwide.
Now Disney confirms that two possible additional seasons are being planned for the series. Among others, the main writers of the first season, a married couple, are involved in the development work Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo and Clavell’s daughter, a producer Michaela Clavell.
We will start working on new scripts this summer. A schedule for production has not yet been set.
Shogun has received critical acclaim in the world’s media. Also HS’s culture editor Samuli Tiikkaja praised the series in his review.
Based on a novel published in 1975, the series tells the story of an English pilot who works on a Dutch ship and uses his last strength to find a route to Japan – which the Portuguese already consider their fiefdom.
The story is based on real events in feudal Japan.
