Podium on debut in the WEC: a goal that Valentino Rossi he just didn't reach in the 1812 km of Qatarthe inaugural event of the 2024 season. The nine-time world champion in the MotoGP, who this year will also participate in the GT World Challenge, has in fact closed 4th place together with his companions Team WRT #46 Maxime Martin and Ahmed Al Harthy in a fight for second place with Aston Martin.
Making his debut in the newly created category LMGT3Rossi took the wheel of BMW M4 GT3 after the first part of the race run by Al Harthy, with the main objective of bringing the car to 3rd place. An excellent pace that the 'Doctor' maintained once night fell on the Losail circuit, even before handing the car back to Martin, who was unable to go beyond fourth position, well defended by Rossi.
An overall satisfying race for the MotoGP legend, who commented on his first outing in the WEC at Eurosport as follows: “It was my debut, so I was excited – declared the 44 year old – I felt good, especially in the first stint. I was fast. I kept a good pace, I felt good in the car. In the second stint it was a little more difficult because the track is very different compared to yesterday, with a lot of rubber and a lot of grip. So the tires are under more stress. In the second stint it was more difficult also because, for some reason, I had more traffic. The track conditions are evolving, and if you go off the line..”.
In the second half of April, Rossi will return home for the second round of the world championship, the 6 Hours of Imola. As dreams go by, the #46's dream of participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, scheduled for June 15th, becomes ever closer.
