The bad moment of Atlético Nacional, both in the League and in the Copa Libertadores, claimed the head of coach Jhon Bodmer this Friday. The Bogotá coach presented his letter of resignation.
In a statement posted on its social media, the club said Bodmer decided to leave for “security reasons.”
“We would have liked him to continue leading the Atlético Nacional sports project, but we understand that the safety of him and his family is a priority,” the document added.
This same Friday, Nacional announced the provisional coaching staff that will take charge of the team, initially, for the match against Equidad, on Sunday in El Campín. It is headed by Juan Camilo Pérez, who will be accompanied by Sebastián Pulido (technical assistant), Camilo Quintero (physical trainer) and Milton Patiño (goalkeeping coach).
Francisco Maturana, Copa Libertadores champion with Nacional in 1989, will serve as advisor to this coaching staff while Bodmer's permanent replacement arrives.
The resume of the coach in charge of Atlético Nacional
Who is Juan Camilo Pérez? The new coach in charge of Nacional is 57 years old and is linked to the club as leader of the scouting department and recruiting promises for the minor divisions. He is a business administrator from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana and trained as a coach in the Antioquia League.
In 2015 he directed the Colombia Under-17 Team that participated in the South American category in Paraguay. The team reached the final hexagonal but failed to qualify for the World Cup. Among the notable players on that roster were Carlos Cuesta, Jhon Lucumí, Jorge Carrascal, Stiven Vega and Edwuin Cetré.
He had a successful time with the Antioquia youth teams, with which he won titles in several categories, and was technical assistant to coaches such as Norberto Peluffo, Juan Eugenio Jiménez, Carlos 'Piscis' Restrepo and Santiago Escobar.
Nacional announced that starting this Friday the search for a full-time coach for the professional team began.
