“For 40 years the Unitary Union of Workers of the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (SUTINAOE) has set an example of the fight for labor rights of workers in the country's Scientific and Technological sector, as stated exclusively by Dr. Anselmo Alejandro Cornejo Rodríguez, Emeritus National Researcher.
“From a distance, on this 40th anniversary, we reflect that the idea to found it began about five years before its founding in 1984. The story begins with the attempt to register it in Section “A” of the Federal Law. of Labor, however it was not possible. This fact caused some colleagues to be fired. In that period, the requirement of having members of at least 21 workers was barely met. The news of the Sweepers' Union also appeared in a local newspaper (SUTINADE), headed by Jesús Pedraza Contreras, who by the way created the emblem of the union that continues to represent them to this day”
“After a pause and concerns, but without giving up and without being able to know the possible future, the proposal was presented to make another attempt but now in Section, “B”, seeking the support of the Federation of Workers' Unions to the State Service (FSTSE), from whom we receive unrestricted help. It was in this way that, even with the small margin of 21 workers, the registration was finally achieved and as you can imagine, the reaction was aggressive on the part of the authorities of the institute, where they threatened and fired other members, who After a while, their jobs were recovered by decision of the INAOE Governing Board.”
“It is fair to mention the notable participation of Enrique Tejada, who nobly supported and advised us in those years, only paying his travel expenses from the then Federal District to Puebla. It is also relevant to remember Don Juan (Alberto….), who lent us his house here in Tonantzintla for our meetings (our auditorium). In addition, SUTIN was always present to support us in our public rallies and marches.”
“With this brief story of the first steps of our resilient and unforgettable SUTINAOE, came the years of strengthening the organization, with the changes every three years of the executive committees, always counting on the undeniable and brave participation of colleagues at the front. ; with a firm base, always attentive to their performance to avoid any situation that would affect us as a democratic and honest union organization for the good of us, our institution and country.”
“The value of SUTINAOE as an organization of workers lies in being a pioneering union within its sphere of competence, with broad recognition outside of it, and attentive to cooperating in the orientation and formation of new unions, remembering the support of SUTIN; as can be seen at present in their fight to remain in Section A, despite the legal obstacles that have recently arisen”
Within the framework of the 40th Anniversary celebrations and the celebration of the signing of the INAOE CCT, three very precise presentations on unionism in Mexico were held at the INAOE Information Center Auditorium in San Andrés Cholula, Puebla, by Dr. José Alfonso Bouzas Ortiz, Senior Researcher at the UNAM Economic Research Center and general director of the Citizen Observatory; Master of Science Ignacio Levy García de la Cadena Pallares, general secretary of SUTEC; and Dora Altamirano Nandayapa, general secretary of the Colegio de la Frontera Sur workers union.
