Very bad driving weather is being warned on Friday and Saturday.
Thursday brings relief to road traffic when the rainy area subsides. In some parts of the country, there may still be weak snow showers or a little drizzle here and there. On Wednesday evening, however, it was not known that any kind of weather warnings had been issued for Thursday.
In the western part of the country, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, it is cloudy and in some places light snow or freezing drizzle. The temperature is mostly between two and eight degrees below zero.
It will also be cloudy in the eastern and northern parts of the country, but the snowfall may be heavy in some places at first. At night, however, the snowfall weakens. In northern Lapland, the weather continues to be mostly dusty. The mercury is mostly between 8 and 16 degrees below zero.
In the southern part of the country, on the other hand, it is estimated that the snow will become slippery, which is why you should be careful on the sidewalks.
On Friday on the other hand, the situation is clearly changing again, and ski vacationers should be careful when traveling in traffic.
“Friday and Saturday, there is going to be a brisker low pressure, which will then go over, and those driving conditions will change to very bad, even widely. There will be snow, rain, sleet, everything is possible”, meteorologist on duty at the Finnish Meteorological Institute Helena Laakso told STT on Wednesday about the early evening.
The rains may come as water in the south, while in the central part of the country there is snow, which according to Laakso, may come quite a bit.
For Friday, warnings of bad or very bad driving weather have been issued from the southwestern parts of the country up to the regions of Central Ostrobothnia, Central Finland, Päijät-Häme and Uusimaa.
On Saturday, the driving weather will worsen even more in a larger part of the country, and bad or very bad driving weather is being warned from the south all the way to Kainuu and the height of the western part of North Ostrobothnia.
Friday and during Saturday in the southern part of the country it will cool down clearly and the temperatures will go well into the plus side, accompanied by water rains. On the other hand, from the middle of the country to the north, it is on the freezing side, but not very much. The cold is probably the most severe in Northern Lapland.
On Saturday, however, low pressure is already moving to the east of Finland, and cold air is flowing from the north, which will cool the weather in the southern parts of the country as well.
According to Laakso, after low pressure, it gets cold suddenly and all places freeze.
