Increasingly “bare” liveries
In Formula 1, speed is everything, and it is often played on the gram to make the cars more performing. The higher the level, the more the search for speed intensifies, also affecting the liveries of the cars: they are less and less colourful, on the contrary we see “naked” carbon fiber more and more often to lighten the car as much as possible. Alpine, McLaren, Stake, Haas, Aston Martin, Williams and Ferrari – more or less – have confirmed this trend.
A completely stripped car would weigh several kilos less and go a few tenths of a second faster on the lap, but for obvious reasons it is not a viable option. Former F1 driver Martin Brundle has a different idea: to give a “weight bonus” to the more colorful cars.
Brundle's tweet
This is Brundle's thought expressed on his social media.
“The Aston Martin looks classy. Teams should be rewarded with a weight reduction for more complete liveries that stand out on track to spectators and viewers. The grid should have a dynamic look, it's F1. Some of these cars have a dark and unfinished appearance“.
