New face in FIA
In the period in which the teams are presenting the liveries of their cars to the world for the 2024 season, the International Federation has also implemented changes. Above all, the one relating to new Technical Director of the single-seater sectora role that will be covered by this from Jan MonchauxFrench engineer, former technical director of Sauber.
The 45-year-old thus replaces Tim Gosswho left the governing body last year in the direction of Faenza to start a new experience at Racing Bulls: “I am very happy to join the FIA as Technical Director and I look forward to facing the new challenges that this role brings – declared Monchaux – or worked on the competitor side for many years, but now the opportunity to help shape the future of the sport with the FIA is a prospect I greatly appreciate.”
The assignments
With the new role, the transalpine will respond directly to Nicholas Tombaziswho joined the FIA board in 2018. In addition to covering similar functions to those of Goss, Monchaux will also have a key role on projects related to technical regulations which will come into force in 2026and which will be formulated this year: “I am thrilled to welcome Jan to the FIA to play an important role in the technical department and in defining the future regulations of the sport – commented Tombazis – Jan's arrival will strengthen our vast technical expertise.”
The F1 experience
He entered F1 in 2002 as head of aerodynamics ToyotaMonchaux remained with the Japanese team until 2009. Just like Tombazis, the transalpine also boasts experience in Ferrariin this case as head of the aerodynamic department from 2010 to 2012. He then moved to Audi covering the same roles, 2018 was the year of his return to F1 with the Sauberthen becoming technical manager in mid-2019 replacing Simone Resta.
