The PSB presented on the afternoon of this Monday, 5th, a request to remove the party from the “bloc” that brought together the acronym, União Brasil, PP, PDT, PSDB, Cidadania, Avante, Solidariedade and Patriot in the Chamber of Deputies. The document is signed by the leader of the PSB in the House, Gérvasio Maia (PB).
As shown by Estadão Columnthe PT would dedicate the beginning of next year to trying to negotiate a new group for 2024. The idea was, even, to bring together the most progressive parties that were part of the bloc: the PSB and the PDT.
The creation of the “blocão” was a reaction by Centrão to the PT and PL, which own the largest benches. Bringing together the other acronyms, Centrão guaranteed the largest benches, and thus had priority in choosing committees.
The first large bloc in this legislature was formed between MDB, PSB, Republicans and Podemos, and brings together 144 deputies. The “bloc” emerged later and has 176 parliamentarians.
The presence of parties such as the PSB and PDT frustrated relations with the government. Despite being faithful to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's agenda, in certain votes, the former PSB leader in the Chamber, Felipe Carreras (PE), had to guide votes against the government in the plenary, as he was also temporary leader of the “bloc” .
