Abu Dhabi Police has obligated school bus drivers to follow regulations when using the “Stop” lever, so as not to cause obstruction to traffic, including stopping the bus in front of the student’s home, except in the event of obstruction or road works, and not stopping on highways and main roads, or in public bus stops. Abu Dhabi Police asked school bus drivers not to open the “Stop” lever if the student is inside his home, to avoid traffic congestion on the roads, noting that drivers can file a grievance against the violation of not stopping when they see the “Stop” lever, and cancel it if it is proven that the driver did not comply. The school bus has restrictions on its use and opening it in undesignated places and parking lots.
The “Stop” arm specification was activated, and its presence on school buses is mandatory, against the backdrop of accidents involving students, due to their unexpected movement after getting off the bus.
She explained, “Some students walk in front of the bus, and a vehicle crosses, which leads to accidents. Therefore, vehicle drivers have been obligated to maintain a five-meter safe distance from the school bus when the lever is opened, so that the driver has a greater view of what may happen around the bus.” school, especially since some students may perform random actions, such as running in the street, even if they are dropped off from the right.”
A special radar was activated on the school bus, for a violation of failure to stop when the “Stop” lever is opened, while Abu Dhabi Police tightens its procedures at the beginning of each academic year, in cooperation with strategic partners, to ensure that students reach their studies safely, in addition to implementing campaigns aimed at raising awareness of school bus drivers.
