Borrell: new EU sanctions will be aimed at companies helping Russia
New European Union (EU) sanctions will be aimed at companies from third countries that help Russia circumvent existing Western restrictions and do not comply with the sanctions mechanism. The details were revealed by the head of the EU foreign policy service, Josep Borrell, as quoted by TASS.
The head of European diplomacy clarified that the new sanctions will affect “many people and institutions” whose actions undermine the Western sanctions mechanism. Borrell also added that the 13th package of anti-Russian sanctions will significantly complicate the Russian Federation’s ability to circumvent existing restrictions.
The details of the new anti-Russian sanctions were previously reported by the DPA agency with reference to European officials. It was clarified that European authorities are working on a new package of restrictions for the second anniversary of the start of hostilities in Ukraine.
More than 200 companies and individuals that contribute to the “military and technological strengthening of Russia” may be subject to the new restrictions. We are talking, among other things, about plans to freeze their assets in the territory of EU countries, as well as about the seizure of income from the storage of blocked funds of the Russian Central Bank.
