The Hungarian parliament proposed to vote on Sweden's application at the end of February
The Hungarian parliament was asked to vote on Sweden's application to join NATO at the end of February. This was stated by the leader of the ruling faction “FIDES – Hungarian Civil Union” Mate Kocsis on the social network Facebook (social network banned in the Russian Federation; owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned).
“In our opinion, ratification of the Swedish application to NATO can take place at the beginning of the next parliamentary session, but this requires a meeting of the two prime ministers in Budapest. If it is important for Swedes to join [к альянсу]then they will come here like they went to Turkey,” the politician noted.
The spring session of parliament will begin on February 26. The ruling faction will miss today's extraordinary parliamentary meeting due to which a quorum on the issue of Sweden's entry into the North Atlantic Alliance will not be reached.
The refusal of the ruling alliance to take part in the parliamentary meeting became known on February 2. Representatives of the ruling parties are demanding that Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson meet with his counterpart Viktor Orban.
