Adrian Newey reveals some tasty details of the Red Bull hypercar.
In the latter days of the combustion engine, a few very cool engines are being introduced. How about the naturally aspirated V12 from the Valkyrie? Or the V12 from the Gordon Murray T.50, which can run at 12,000 rpm? And soon there will be another car with an extremely cool engine.
Adrian Newey
We are talking about the Red Bull RB17. This is not a Formula 1 car, but the new hypercar that Adrian Newey is developing in the meantime. So this is simply a car that customers will soon be able to buy. This RB17 was still largely shrouded in mystery, but Adrian Newey reveals the latest Talking Bull podcast some things. In it he explains, among other things, what kind of drivetrain the RB17 will have.
High-revving V10
That already sounds very tasty: inspired by the Formula 1 cars from the 1990s, the RB17 gets a naturally aspirated, high-revving V10. It must be able to make up to 15,000 revolutions. There was first talk that the car would get a V8, but this is of course only better. We're almost getting goosebumps already.
The V10 will be assisted by a 200 hp electric motor, which will bring the total power to around 1,000 hp. In terms of weight, Red Bull is aiming for less than 900 kg. Of course, aerodynamics are also very important: the RB17 must be able to generate 1,700 kg of downforce.
Formula 1 lap times
The performance will therefore be at least as spectacular as the sound. According to Newey, the car is with the right driver behind the wheel (Max Verstappen for example) even capable of Formula 1 lap times.
Nevertheless, the hypercar will simply be a two-seater, in which you can sit somewhat comfortably. The car can probably best be compared with the Valkyrie, which, not entirely coincidentally, was also designed by a certain A. Newey. However, the RB17 is purely intended as a circuit toy, not for public roads. The edition will be limited to 50 pieces.
GP of Austria
When will we see the Red Bull RB17 for the first time? Red Bull wants the car to make its track debut during the Austrian GP next year. We may see the design sooner. The car will not actually go into production until 2026, so we will have to be patient. But Adrian Newey certainly gave us a good time.
