Kurt Russell he finally explained why he didn't want to dub Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid, despite having been offered the role. Consider that one of Kojima's main sources of inspiration for the character was Jena Plissken (Snake Plissken in the original), the protagonist of the 1997 film: Escape from New York by John Carpenter, played by Kurt Russel.
The interview
Russell touched on the topic in an interview with GQ, stating that he is more of a film enthusiast and that it is important for him to work on new characters instead of trying to reinterpret old ones.
Russell: “There have been many occasions where people have wanted to do something. I don't know. I'm a movie buff. You have to understand that, from my point of view, whether it's Elvis, or Snake Plissken, or Jack Burton, or RJ MacReady, the character was from that project. He was that thing over there. You get into that mindset. You create that reality. You want to make that world appear.”
Currently the Metal Gear Solid series has made its return to the market with the first Master Collection, which includes the first three chapters plus the two episodes released on MSX. Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, the remake of the third episode, should also be released soon.
