The capital of Rio Grande do Sul was hit by storms on Tuesday (18 January); 2 people died
The Government of Rio Grande do Sul informedat 6pm this Sunday (Jan 21, 2024), that 49,520 points are still without electricity in Porto Alegre (RS) and the metropolitan region.
On Tuesday night (Jan 18), heavy rain hit the capital of Rio Grande do Sul and was responsible for leaving around 1.3 million people without power. It also affected the water and telephone supply in the State. According to the note, 5 municipalities are still without telephone and internet service, partially or entirely from the operator Tim.
The state governor, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), also confirmed, on Saturday (20.jan), in its profile on X (ex-Twitter), that a 2nd victim had been found after the storm passed.
According to him, a 29-year-old motorcycle courier had been missing since Tuesday (18 January). The 1st reported victim was from Cachoeirinha, in the metropolitan region of the capital.
The storm caused flooding in the streets and hail, as well as damage to the health network. There was roof damage at Hospital São Lucas, at PUC-RS, in the Partenon neighborhood.
On the city hall website, it is stated that teams are working to restore services impacted by the rain, with the priority being the normalization of the water supply and assistance to hospitals.
