Central Bank employees will go on a 24-hour strike this Thursday, 11th, in which they predict a possible “blackout” in BC services. “It is anticipated that this action could result in operational interruptions, a real 'blackout', in all services of the Central Bank of Brazil. This will negatively impact service to the market and the public, including canceling meetings, maintaining systems and delays in the dissemination of information”, stated in a statement the National Union of Central Bank Employees (Sinal), confirming the movement that was approved in the assembly general on December 28th.
The estimate by Signal leaders is that more than 70% of employees will join the strike. “The decision to carry out the strike arises from the dissatisfaction of civil servants in relation to the treatment given to their demands, amid asymmetrical concessions offered to other typical categories of the State”, said the entity, according to whom, additionally, the delivery process has begun of commissioned functions. “The civil servants assuming these functions undertake to deliver them if negotiations with the government do not progress, with the effective delivery scheduled for the first half of February”, he stated.
Repurchase operations and currency swap rollovers are maintained, according to statements published on Wednesday night.
As shown by the Broadcast (Grupo Estado's real-time news system), for the category, the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) has treated the list of employee demands with “disregard”. At the same time, BC workers claim, the Ministry has made asymmetric concessions to other categories, specifically citing federal police officers and IRS auditors.
In the note released this Wednesday, 10th, Sinal also cites a “concern” with the “lack of dialogue” and the “alleged authoritarian haste” of the president of the BC, Roberto Campos Neto, in addressing issues such as the Amendment Proposal Constitution (PEC) of the independence of the municipality.
The president of the BC is not in Brasília and, since Monday, the 8th, has been traveling from Miami (USA), where he participates in the bimonthly meeting of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Tomorrow, the Director of Administration, Rodrigo Alves Teixeira, responsible for dialogue with employees, will be in the federal capital. His schedule only provides for internal dispatches.
