Samsung is thinking of a Galaxy Buds model with a case equipped with a screen

Samsung presented an innovative proposal for the Galaxy Buds at CES 2024: a case equipped with one OLED touch screen.
The technological leap in wireless accessories promises to offer users greater convenience and advanced control features.

Samsung has developed several variations of OLED displays applicable to a wide range of products.
We've already seen this technology integrated into home appliances, with constantly evolving displays providing relevant information to owners.

Now, the company has introduced an exciting idea: integrating the OLED screen by scaling it to fit the Galaxy Buds case.
However, no indication was given on the launch date for the general public.

Interactive case

The prototype called “Earbuds OLED Case” integrates a small circular OLED display on the top of the case.
This screen provides information of fundamental usefulness such as the charging status of the earphones and case, the audio modes and the status of noise cancellation activation.

Furthermore, it allows users to manage settings directly from it, eliminating the need to open the earphones application on a connected device.

At the moment, neither Samsung nor Apple have introduced anything similar as an accessory for wireless earphones, and this could be seen as an addition that brings an additional level of convenience.

Miniature touchscreen

Adding an OLED touchscreen could make the Galaxy Buds more versatile and integrated.
This would allow users to manage music, customize settings, check the time and perform other tasks, expanding the Buds' capabilities for a wide range of devices, including laptops, TVs and more.

Similar technologies have already been adopted in wireless earphones from JBL, also part of the HARMAN Group, affiliated with Samsung Electronics.
However, it should be considered that the integration of these displays involves high costs and requires large investments to fit such panels into the Galaxy Buds case. Furthermore, given the limited size of the cases, installing a larger battery could be a problem.

Using an OLED panel could have a significant impact on battery life of the Galaxy Buds, and could reduce the overall battery life of the earphones.
While the idea sounds interesting in theory, it may not be simple in practice.
