Marelli will present its technology “Software-Defined Interior” (software-based devices for the interior of the passenger compartment)al CES 2024. Built on the company's centralized architecture, the technology, which represents an evolution of Marelli's Digital Cockpit, includes a central electronic unit (Central Computing Unit) powered by the latest generation Snapdragon® Cockpit platform and supports up to four Electronic Zone Control Units (ZCU – Zone Control Units). The interior incorporates digital displays to replace analogue interfaces, with content that can be personalized by the vehicle owner using artificial intelligence (AI). The company will exhibit its latest technological solutions, which illustrate its approach to innovation”Design-Led” by Marelli, in Las Vegas, USA, from 9 to 11 January 2024 at the Wynn Hotel, Latour Ballroom 5-6.
New display technologies
The Software-Defined Interior by Marelli supports several innovative display technologies, including next-generation HorizonView, Marelli's award-winning pillar-to-pillar display with improved brightness and contrast over the previous generation, and a seamlessly integrated 12” hidden display in the cockpit. The Software-Defined Interior by Marelli includes one of the first automotive applications of OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays, a mobile display developed by Marelli with the support of BOE, a world leader in display technologies, and its subsidiary BOE Varitronix Limited. This product represents a further step in the long-standing cooperation between the two companies and lays the foundation for further future collaborations.
Marelli's Virtual Assistant
A holographic display supports the Marelli Virtual Assistant, an advanced human-machine interface that acts as a co-pilot, creating a unique driving experience and transforming the interaction between the car and its occupants. The interior takes advantage of Marelli's customization profile-based solution, allowing for a tailored user experience. The driver can easily create his own profile to define car settings, such as seat position, temperature, ambient lighting, music preferences and ground lighting; the “person” profile is stored in the cloud and can be applied to different vehicles, consistently guaranteeing the same personalized experience on each of them. The Software-Defined Interior also includes the CAMEX solution (Context-Aware Mobility Experience) by Marelli, based on artificial intelligence, which allows unparalleled interaction with the vehicle through the analysis of the entire environment, both inside and outside the car. Leveraging Eyeris' advanced 3D monocular cockpit AI technology – which includes the Driver Monitoring System (DMS).”depth-aware” and the Occupant Monitoring System (OMS) – CAMEX analyzes users' faces, bodies and hands in three-dimensional space to understand complex behaviors and recognize subtle moods, adapting vehicle settings and features accordingly and suggesting interactions with the virtual assistant. The environment outside the vehicle also plays an active role in shaping the driving experience, offering infinite possibilities: from adjusting the climate control to reduce the temperature based on the driver's preferences on a hot summer day, to suggesting a detour for a stop at his favorite restaurant. Marelli's solution for ambient lighting allows for high flexibility and multiple options regarding the combination of colours, intensity levels and different areas of the passenger compartment to adapt to user preferences, even in combination with surfaces decorative and intelligent. In particular, if associated with CAMEX it transforms into a feature of great impact regarding the interactions between the occupants and the vehicle.
The audio software
The interior perfectly complements the platform software-defined audio by Marelli, based on the company's centralized architecture. This innovative approach separates the amplifier into the various ZCUs (Zone Control Units), resulting in a more flexible and efficient audio system. With the ability to control up to 16 speakers, the system offers exceptional sound quality and supports a wide range of customization options: users will be able to tailor their experience by choosing from a series of specific audio “preferences”, developed by companies leader in the audio industry. The new sound distribution (sound zoning) by Marelli will allow the driver to transform the car into his own personal conference room. An optimized background noise cancellation system effectively isolates your voice from any other sound, including music playing, ensuring clear, seamless hands-free conversations even with passengers who are not participating in the call. User experience personalization continues in the cloud with Sibros' Deep Logger service and Big Data analytics. The vehicle's technical data is extracted and analyzed, making services such as predictive maintenance, preventative detection of any anomalies or remote troubleshooting possible. Users will also have the certainty that their vehicle's software will always be up to date thanks to the Sibros Deep Updater, which allows complete updates over-the-air (remotely) automatically.
