For Darius Sadeghian, Rocksteady's studio product director, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has the same DNA of the series Batman: Arkham. The developer made this statement in an interview with PLAY Magazine, in response to the criticism rained down on the game due to its live service nature.
“We knew we wanted to make a four-player cooperative game, so we spent a lot of time iterating on our characters,” Sadeghian said. “For us, it wasn't so much about making a game in a particular genre. Rather, we wanted to create a sense of flow and trinity between all the systems that make up the gameplay, which is reflected in the way movement, melee combat and elements as shooters they bond together while playing.”
A title in difficulty
Clearly Sadeghian plays on the defensive, to respond to the doubts and criticisms Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League received in advance for its economic model. “Our goal for the game is to create a community. We want every player to feel part of the Suicide Squad and the global community of the game.” Continued Sadeghain, who then added: “This goal was at the heart of development and the game was built from the ground up as an experience that can be shared with friends.”
For this reason, the game will contain several social-focused features, such as a global leaderboard: “We wanted to create a game where every player is connected to a larger community and where we, as developers, have the opportunity to invite this community to collaborate to evolve the game.”
Speaking of the elephant in the room, nature live service of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Sadeghian then said, “We don't think our game qualifies,” before adding that “it's still full of the DNA infused in the Batman: Arkham series.”
What to add? Public reaction to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was not at all positive. At this point all that remains is to see if the response will be similar when the game arrives on the market on February 2, 2024, for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series
