Before the end of the year it emerged that Cher had requested guardianship of her 47-year-old son, Elijah Blue Allman, who has suffered from addiction problems since childhood, to preserve her assets. A request that has been temporarily denied since the artist's lawyers notified Allman of the judicial action just 24 hours in advance and did not share “confidential information” about the case with them. Thus, the judge has set a new hearing for January 29 and has ordered Cher's legal team to share all the information they have with her son's lawyers a week before.
At the hearing, Allman acknowledged that he has been “struggling with addiction” for many years and that he has spent money “in ways that have not always been the most responsible.” However, he has also argued that he is in treatment and that he has “recently” passed a drug test and is “willing to undergo future testing.” “I have been clean and sober from illicit substances for more than 90 days and I am fully capable of managing the money I receive quarterly from the trust my late father left me,” he defended.
