Lowest prices for Volkswagen's ID range in several European countries. The German brand has in fact announced a cut to the price lists of its family of electric cars offered on the Old Continent market, with the aim of increasing sales of these models, which slowed down in the last months of 2023. The Wolfsburg giant has at the same time announced also a simplification of the offer, renewing the trim levels available on the ID range.
Volkswagen cuts prices
According to VW, the price cuts “will allow us to achieve our ambitious corporate goals. With our clear pricing strategy, we continue to focus primarily on the quality and attractiveness of our products”, a representative of the brand said during an interview given a few days ago to Automotive News Europe. The specific cuts and trims for each market will be adopted according to specific needs, such as in France where price lists have been reduced to include all models in the incentive program launched by Emmanuel Macron's Government.
The change of direction
The price cut on Volkswagen's ID range came despite the German brand initially saying it was against the price war triggered by Elon Musk and Tesla which started reducing the costs of the American brand's models. Last year Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen, argued that the group would not give in, focusing on reliability and a clear pricing strategy. The results obtained by Tesla on the market, with Model Y and Model 3 authentic best sellers and the production slowdown of the ID range must have pushed the German car manufacturer to review its strategies.
