The San Siro memorabilia museum in trouble, former Milan Rivera: “I will appeal to the European Court of Justice”
More than 50 years have passed but now the two true twins of football, Sandro Mazzola Inter fan and Gianni Rivera AC Milan fan, are reunited together in a museum at the San Siro / Meazza. A question of principle and of course of money.
It's all about a “museum” which would have been set up in a couple of “botched” rooms, says the former golden boy inside the Milanese stadium: “In the stadium there is a noticeboard of mine with a red and black shirt which in my opinion is not even authentic, and there are some shoes passed off as mine: impossible, because at the end of each year I threw them away.”
And then again at Gazzetta dello Sport: “I don't have a problem with the Milan but with those who have been profiting from my image for years, without even asking permission. I discovered it by chance, and I discovered that people even pay for the ticket. I consider it an undue exploitation of image, and now I will turn to European Court of Justice. These gentlemen of the so-called museum, in reality a couple of botched rooms, speak of educational interest: so why the ticket to enter? The truth is that they make a lot of money thanks to us having nothing to do with it.”
In short, there is someone – according to the former captain of the Milan– who is using t-shirts, socks, shoes and shorts – nothing is thrown away – unduly. But not only have sweaty underwear and soiled shoes been recycled, there's also more: “There's even a bust that the sculptor gave me Todeschini: I had left it in Milanello, but everyone knew it was mine. I found out that they had exposed him to San Siro because a friend sent me some photos.”
And finally the call to the unforgettable friend/enemy of many matches, his footballing alter ego: “I also hired a private investigator to see more clearly. In that sort of museum/non-museum there is also the noticeboard of Sandro MazzolaI'll call him now.” Rivera However, he doesn't only have Mazzola in mind, but also wants to involve former colleagues: “I want to fight like in 1968, when we founded the Aic (Italian Footballers Association, ed)”. In short, it seems more like a question of principle, even if the market for famous memorabilia has a strong international following and can therefore generate high profits.
Rivera However, he reiterates that he is still a fan of the Milan, which is his team, but he is angry with the current club: “I am angry with all those who speculate on us footballers of yesterday thinking they can always do what they want, for all the great champions of the past used at will from the marketing of yesterday and today. Mine is also a battle for Mazzolai shorei Boninsegna”.
And it is nice to think that, beyond the rights and wrongs of this affair, a sort of “avengers league” from the golden times is returning which once again brings together players who have made the history of football and dream of fans.
