Bad news for fans of 86 – Eighty Six. In fact, today we get the news that this sci-fi manga series, adaptation of a successful series of light novels created by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabi, has been permanently canceled. In this case, unfortunately for the author, it is not a reason linked to sales or to the lack of satisfaction from the public, but rather from the bad health of the mangaka who took care of it, sensei Motoki Yoshihara. This announcement of definitive cancellation comes after a long period of silence and the absence of new chapters.
Through a concise announcement published by SQUARE ENIX on the website of the Young Gangan magazine it owns, we learn the sad news. We report the press release below, translated from Japanese:
Notice of the end of the serialization of the manga “86 – Eighty Six”
Thank you for enjoying the manga version of “86 – Eighty Six”. We are very sorry that the publication has been interrupted for a long time. The manga version has been suspended, since July 2021 Motoki Yoshihara, who deals with the manga, is in poor physical condition and drawing and writing has been too difficult for him. Following repeated discussions with sensei Motoki Yoshihara and the editorial department of KADOKAWA Dengeki Bunko Co., Ltd., it is difficult to continue serialization, so we have decided to end it permanently.
We are very sorry for all the readers who were looking forward to reading a new chapter. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. The manga therefore ends with the third volume currently on sale.
Thanks for your continued patronage.

From the series of light novels 86 – Eighty Six, still unpublished here in Italy, a manga adaptation was taken (now canceled and therefore incomplete) published instead by J-POP (find our review here) and a 23-episode anime series, which aired on Crunchyroll.
