The Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth 2022 announced that 65 realistic and fictional films will be shown for the first time in the Middle East, with daily screenings from 10-15 October at the Al Jawaher Center for Events and Conferences and Fox Cinemas City Center Al Zahia in Sharjah, and Mirdif City Center in Dubai.
In the category “Films Made by Children and Young Adults”, the festival will screen 10 short films from Belgium, the United Kingdom and Nepal, including: “Farewell Earth” and “Say No to Plastic”.
In the category “Student-Made Films”, the festival will witness 9 films, some of which are animated films from France. The short animated film “Alone in the Elevator” by Greek director Anastasia Papadopoulou discusses topics about behavior in public places and the importance of family ties.
In the “International Short Films” category, the festival will screen 6 films, including: “Salvador Dali”, “Chicken”, “Silent Echo” and “Sisi”.
The largest share of films shown for the first time in the Middle East was in the “animated films” category, with 24 films, which reflects the demand of animators, directors and youth on the latest production technologies and the manufacture of this type of films.
In the “Documentary Films” category, the festival will witness the premiere of 3 films, including: “Water, Wind, Dust, and Bread” by Iranian director Mahdi Zamanpour, who follows the life of a young man who has amputated hands and succeeds in overcoming challenges with his love of life.
The list of films that are shown for the first time in the “Feature Film” category includes 12 films, including: “The South Korean Croissant,” which focuses on young people trapped between reality and fantasy as they pursue their dreams, and “Moon Rock for Mandae,” which reviews the story of The humanity of a sick nine-year-old girl.
“Ali and His Miraculous Sheep,” directed by Maitham Reda, is the first film to be shown in the Middle East in the “Short Gulf Films” category. The film accompanies viewers into the life of Ali, a 9-year-old mute child who accompanies his sheep, Carmenta, on a 400-kilometre journey. Across Iraq’s war-ravaged cities.
The “Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth 2022”, organized by the (Fan) Foundation, which is concerned with promoting media art among children and youth in the UAE, screens 95 films from 43 countries around the world, and witnesses the participation of a number of speakers, including Fadel Al Muhairi, Rasha Rizk, and Waad Al-Khatib and Dixie Eggers, in addition to discussion sessions introducing children and young people to the film industry, in addition to the “Green Carpet” event, which is being organized for the first time.
