A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook the town of Chiayi, in the central area of
Taiwan, the territory’s National Meteorological Center reported.
The tremor occurred at 17:30 local time on Tuesday and had its epicenter at a depth of 8.5 kilometers, detailed the agency, quoted by the island news agency CNA.

At the moment, no victims or significant material damage have been reported, the agency reported. In addition to the aforementioned chiayithe tremor was felt with the greatest intensity in the municipalities of Yulin and Tainanlocated in the center and west of the island.
