“The Exorcist” It’s not just a horror movie, it’s a cinematic masterpiece. Starring Pretty Blair Y Ellen Burstyn, its plot caused a stir when it was released in 1973 and with good reason. His story of demon possession, which left more than one death in its wake, earned him his place among the most famous cursed tapes in history.
Therefore, it was a matter of time before an ambitious reboot appeared on the horizon. In this way, the well-known studies blumhouse Y Universal teamed up to bring horror back to screens with a modern version, in which Burstyn will reprise his iconic role as Chris MacNeilthe mother of scold.
How did they convince Ellen Burstyn?
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ellen Burstin commented that, over the years, he rejected various proposals to continue the plot of “The Exorcist”. The aforementioned production houses were not the exception; however, they did something that perhaps others did not: improve their offer.
“I’ve said no every time. This time they offered me a lot of money and I still said no. And then they surprised me and said again: ‘We doubled the offer.’ I said, ‘OK, let me think about it,'” the 89-year-old artist began.
At that time, Burstyn confessed that the devil came to mind, since he felt that there was something behind the insistence to return to the saga. In this way, he finally explained how an agreement was reached to guarantee his presence in the project.
“The next thought that came to mind was: ‘I feel like the devil is asking for my price.’ And the next thought that came to mind was: ‘My Price is a scholarship program for talented students in our master’s program at Pace University. That’s my price,’” he said.
Thus, he asked for a higher salary and got what he wanted: scholarships for young actors.
A classic is reborn and an expected premiere
The talk with THR was not only reduced to her altruistic ‘pact with the devil’, but the interpreter was also encouraged to give some details of the film. Specific, Burstyn confirmed unpublished production data and slipped an approximate release date.
“I have shot most of the film. The writer and director, David Gordon Green, I like very much. I met with him and we talked about the script and stuff, and I promised him four more days if he needed them,” he expressed.
“He has edited the film and wants the four days, so I am going back in November to shoot four more days. And it will be released in 2024, on the 50th anniversary of ‘The Exorcist,’ the original.” he added.
By the way, if you want to see “The Exorcist”, the film is on HBO Max.
