The marriage between Formula 1 and South Africa will have to wait a little longer. There are no official communications from Liberty Media, but the negotiations between the Circus and the Kyalami circuit have suffered an unexpected halt, to the point that hopes of seeing Africa return to the calendar are close to zero.
In the first draft of the calendar that the Circus has drawn up and the teams have received, Kyalami is not there. As expected, the races should reach the record number of 24 (the maximum allowed by the Concorde Agreement), while the presence of Monte Carlo and the farewell of Paul Ricard are confirmed. The draft, published by F1-Insider, has yet to be approved by the FIA World Council: therefore, it is not official but it certainly testifies to the Circus’s desire to combine tradition and revenue. For now, the start is scheduled for March 5th from Sakhir, while the European season should begin on May 21st with the Imola race and finish on September 3rd with that of Monza. Closing dedicated to the American stages (Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas) before the grand finale in Abu Dhabi on November 26th.
