Chihuahua – With the accident last Monday that claimed the lives of six people on the Chihuahua-Juárez highway, the number of fatalities on this road rose to 20 during 2024.
This road has been part of public and media scrutiny due to the poor conditions that have been denounced by various sectors and after the federation’s abandonment to invest in its maintenance. On this occasion, the accident occurred at kilometer 33+500 of the aforementioned road when a cherry-colored 2014 Nissan Versa vehicle lost control and ended up overturning at full speed. Due to the impact, all the occupants of the car lost their lives. There were six victims: three men (one of them a minor) and three women (one a minor). The bodies of two men, a woman and a minor were left inside the vehicle without vital signs, while two other bodies were found under the car. The fatalities from January 1 to July 22, 2024 amounted to 14 in a total of 139 accidents on this road, according to information from the Medical Emergency Regulatory Center (CRUM). This number of accidents also left 160 people injured. While the balance of the accident on Monday swells this figure to reach 20 fatalities on this highway. It was in March when this highway reported the death of a person of migrant origin in a vehicle accident where a minor was injured, as well as a woman. To these events was added another accident in July in which two women also migrants lost their lives. Likewise, accidents have been recorded of public figures such as the case of the team of comedian Brincos Dieras, who was to have a presentation in the state and exposed this situation through his social networks. Since January of this year and after the announcement that the Federation suspended the resources for the repair of the highway sections, the private and public sectors in the state have expressed concern about the conditions of the highways, especially the Chihuahua-Juárez.
