Abandonment of the administration, lack of personnel and means and lack of control in the organization of the Temporary Care Center for Foreigners (CATE). This is the complaint of the Unified Police Union (SUP) of the Region of Murcia for the lack of foresight of the competent administrations in the face of the wave of boats.

This Saturday there were more than 350 immigrants who occupied the CATE facilities. And, according to police sources, the arrival of a new boat with 50 people is expected in the next few hours. Between Wednesday and Thursday, 229 migrants arrived on the Cartagena coast. The same sources assured that the National Police abandoned 120 immigrants in different areas of the municipality, including the Plaza de Alicante, the train and bus stations and Tentegorra. They can only stay in the CATE for a maximum of 72 hours. A time that does not run out.
The SUP denounces that the lack of a marked protocol makes humanitarian care difficult. There was a lack of diapers and milk for the babies who arrived on the boats and a tuberculosis patient had to be treated.
The chaos at CATE was notorious for the lack of human resources: at times there were only two agents to manage the situation, and they were even left without an interpreter to be able to understand each other with the migrants, mostly of Algerian nationality.
