During combat duty, the self-propelled anti-aircraft missile and gun system (ZRPK) “Pantsir-S1” fired a missile at a drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Donetsk direction of the Northern Military District. On April 20, the Ministry of Defense showed a fragment of the combat work of an air defense missile system crew.
The head of the crew of the Pantsir-S1 air defense system, Alexander, told how, while on combat duty, the crew received data about the location of an enemy drone at azimuth 300.
“Upon detection, I issued a command to the operator to take the target for tracking and a missile launch was carried out against this target. The target was destroyed,” he added.
Crews of the Pantsir S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun systems monitor the airspace above the positions of Russian troops around the clock. To destroy air targets, the complex has 12 anti-aircraft missiles. In addition, the complex is equipped with two double-barreled 30 mm cannons with 1,400 rounds of ammunition.
The armament of the Pantsir S1 air defense missile system allows it to destroy any air attack weapon within the established operating range. The crews constantly change positions, and upon arriving at a new location, they are able to switch from standby mode to combat mode in 10 seconds, the defense department explained.
On April 19, the system developer described how the Volnorez mobile electronic warfare (EW) complex protected the Russian heavy flamethrower system (TOS) Solntsepek, left in the field, from attacks by FPV drones of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the night. After Solntsepek was evacuated from the field, the car was repaired and put back into service.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
