The Colombian women’s team finished the first phase of the U-20 World Cup in the country with a perfect campaign. But, in the midst of the 1-0 victory against Mexico on Friday at the Atanasio Girardot stadium, the team suffered a huge scare.
According to the criteria of
Defender Yunaira López, who had been key in the campaign and even scored a goal against Australia in the debut, suffered a strong blow to the head, after colliding with the elbow of her teammate, goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo.
López had to be taken by ambulance to the Pablo Tobón Uribe hospital, near the Atanasio Girardot, to receive medical attention due to a concussion.

Fortunately for the national team, the Atlético Nacional-Formas Íntimas defender’s progress has been very good and the team received some good news: López has left the hospital.
“The player was discharged after two hours of observation, where she received all the treatment and a neurological disorder was ruled out. She is now stable,” reported Noticias Caracol, after learning the new medical report.
It is not yet clear whether Yunaira will be able to play in the World Cup round of 16 match. Colombia is still waiting for an opponent for the match that will be played on Wednesday, September 11, at the Pascual Guerrero stadium in Cali.
