The Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen stressed the importance of doubling international pressure on the terrorist Houthi militia and supporting reforms as an ideal option to bring peace and limit the catastrophic repercussions of the humanitarian crisis, noting that the militia’s practices and violations of international law outweighed the “Al-Qaeda” and “ISIS” organizations.
The head of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, Rashad Al-Alimi, during his meeting yesterday with a delegation from the European Parliament, stressed the importance of doubling international pressure on the Houthi militia, and supporting the reforms led by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government as an ideal option to bring peace and reduce the catastrophic repercussions of the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
In this context, Al-Alimi called on the international community to classify the Houthi group as a “terrorist organization” in view of its egregious practices and violations of international law, in which it surpassed “Al-Qaeda and ISIS”.
For its part, the European delegation affirmed its support for all efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability and alleviating the human suffering in Yemen, and the importance of intense international pressure to revive the political process in the country.
In a related context, Al-Alimi stressed, in a televised interview with Al-Arabiya channel, that the legitimacy’s continued adherence to the UN humanitarian truce, despite the Houthi militia’s refusal to extend it, aims to alleviate the human suffering of the Yemeni people, especially in militia-controlled areas.
He said, “The Houthi militia’s failure to open the roads of Taiz could have been a justification for the legitimate government not to renew the armistice, re-close Sana’a International Airport, and stop the flow of oil derivatives to the port of Hodeidah, but the government made alleviating human suffering a main goal for it.”
He pointed out that the concessions made by the government and its agreement to continue the armistice unilaterally was and still is in the interest of the people and to expose the terrorist militias’ claims of “false grievances.”
He added, “Today, the war stopped unilaterally, except by the militias, which announced that they will continue to continue their war, and this exposed them to the Yemeni people first and the international community that they are not a peace project.”
He said, “The Presidential Leadership Council, the legitimate government, and the Coalition to Support Legitimacy are advocates of peace, but they do not find a partner for peace on the part of the Houthi militia.”
In another context, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center project “Masam” managed during the second week of December to clear 1,408 mines planted by the Houthi militia in various regions of Yemen.
The Saudi Press Agency, SPA, stated that the Masam team was able to clear 15 anti-personnel mines, 130 anti-tank mines, 1,259 unexploded ordnance, and 4 explosive devices, including 73 anti-tank mines and 318 unexploded ordnance, in Aden Governorate, and in the “Directorate of” Qatabah, in Al-Dhalea Governorate, the team removed two unexploded ordnances.
