Looking for a direction

For this reason we did a ‘pre-test’ at Mugello to evaluate both of us: he wanted to evaluate himself and we wanted to see how this test could go. The test went well and the thing that is giving us great satisfaction is the way in which Dovi has really integrated into this thing. For this reason we will have another test on November 6-7always with Dovizioso because Cal told me recently that he was not yet in a condition to test. If Dovi hadn’t been there it would have been a problem for us“.
Fernandez the ‘chosen one’ for the wild cards
Looking ahead to 2025, Yamaha’s ‘test rider fleet’ will be enriched by another particularly interesting rider: Augustus Fernandez. Meregalli’s plan towards him is clear: ‘train’ a tester in house but which has the possibility of being fast and competitive as well wildcard. A tool, that of the ‘extra pilot’, that Yamaha has every intention of using to the maximum of its possibilities during the next season: “Regarding Augusto Fernandez we have the intention of making him grow – Meregalli explained to us – he certainly has the race pace, the speed to race in MotoGP”.
“Because of this – he continued – we will try to make as many wildcards as possible: at this moment our ‘ranking’ would give us the possibility of making six wildcards and the intention is to do all six with Augusto. We want to make him grow as a test rider but trying to always keep him at the speed needed for the race. Dovizioso? If Cal is there, the package will be Cal-Augusto. If he is not ready we will talk to Dovi to convince him to do the whole season”concluded Meregalli.
