ANDAmerican Xander Schauffele remained ahead of the second round of the PGA Championship, which was left inconclusive: Six groups did not manage to finish the day, which was delayed for an hour and 20 minutes due to the incident involving world number one, Scottie Scheffler, very early.
The recent Masters champion was detained by the Louisville Police after he did not comply with the order to stop his vehicle. Shortly before, there was a traffic accident in which a pedestrian died after being hit by a bus.
“I spent a while stretching in a jail cell, it was my first time,” Scheffler said at a press conference. “I was sitting there waiting and I started doing my warm-up because I felt like there was a chance that I could still come here and play, so I started following my routine,” he added.
For everything he had to go through this Friday, Scheffler didn’t do too badly: he finished with a 66, five under par, and shares fourth place in the tournament with the Belgian Thomas Detry and his compatriots Mark Hubbard and Bryson DeChambeau.
Xander Schauffele remained at the top
For his part, Schauffele managed to manage the advantage he had gained on Thursday, when he broke the Valhalla Golf Club course record: To the 62 shots that day he added 68 this Friday to reach 130, 12 under par. He outnumbers his closest guard, Collin Morikawa, by one.
This Friday, the Spaniard delivered a card with three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey. “I don’t know if it has been a strange day; I have made the mistakes. If you don’t hit fairways on this course it is complicated. I have done enough to, in some way, save the round a little,” he explained.
“I made a couple of good putts for par. At first it seemed like things were going well. On several holes they were close to entering, but it was asking too much. I just didn’t give myself the options,” added Rahm.
Former world number one Tiger Woods said goodbye to the tournament after a start to forget: two triple bogeys and a bogey in the first four holes on Friday. He finished with 77 hits on the day and with 149 (+7) in the accumulated.
Colombian Camilo Villegas also had a tournament to forget, whose 74 shots on Friday were not enough to reverse Thursday’s bad round. when he scored 79.
