In a championship so far full of bitterness and disappointments, the reigning world champion Toprak Razgatlioglu returned to dictate the law in the Misano Superpole Race, where the Turkish driver achieved the goal of the first success of the season. In the previous rounds, in fact, the Yamaha rider had collected ‘only’ two Superpoles at Aragon and Assen, but he had never established a success in the race. Moreover, on the same circuit that today gave him the first joy of this 2022, yesterday he had already had to deal with a retirement due to a technical problem, redeeming himself perfectly less than 24 hours later.
In the Romagna morning, Razgatlioglu thus returned to wheelie under the checkered flag at the end of an impeccable test, characterized by an excellent starting point that allowed him to jump to the command in front of Bautista and Rea. During the first five of the 10 total laps, the two riders of Ducati and Kawasaki battled for the conquest of the second position, generating a short show – but very similar to the one staged yesterday – which allowed the Turkish number 1 to stretch on the two, thus consolidating their leadership. In the final moments, with Bautista increasingly 2nd, the surprising performance of Xavi Viergewith the Honda Spaniard threatening Rea for the conquest of the podium, but not enough to overtake the Northern Irishman.
In this way, with Race-2 scheduled for this afternoon at 15:15, Razgatlioglu will start in front of his closest rivals, but with the joy and the awareness of having broken a spell that had kept him away from the top step of the podium. .
