The initiative launched by the PP advocates facilitating infrastructure and economic aid to attract film projects
Film lovers yesterday welcomed the PP proposal to promote the creation of Lorca Film Office, a body that would be established as a public service of the City Council and whose main objective would be to promote the municipality as a filming location for audiovisual productions. It would manage the demands of producers and professionals who choose Lorca to carry out their film projects and commercials. Among other tasks, it would provide production companies with information on filming locations and material rental, as well as aerial filming and filming in streets, parks and monuments. Another of the proposed ideas is that, during the months of inactivity of the Ifelor fairgrounds, it be used as an indoor shooting set.
Several actors have welcomed the proposal with open arms, contributing ideas to achieve the objective pursued. “It is a measure to be taken into account very seriously,” director Dany Campos tells LA TRUTH, since the Region has everything “to be the Hollywood of Europe, given its conditions at the level of infrastructure, urban and natural settings and cultural and landscape heritage,” he says, noting that, “within the region, Lorca would be the best equipped municipality for this activity.”
After analyzing the initiative, the filmmaker offers an idea: the body should create a battery of investors in the region who are willing to facilitate the financing of the film through the tax incentives offered by the Government in this area. “This form of production is very profitable for companies, as they get a number of tax benefits by participating in a film,” he explains. The task of this office would be to promote these incentives and act as an intermediary for investors, managing the financing of productions.
Lorca producer Bernardo Hernández Conejero speaks along the same lines. “If you really want to bring large producers to Lorca, what you need are incentives and municipal support,” he says. “We already have the facilities to shoot and the idea of having an ‘office’ that makes our work easier is great, but what makes a company decline one place or another when it comes to shooting is financial aid” .
Studies in Ifelor
Regarding the use of Ifelor, Hernández Conejero believes that “it would be difficult to shoot here”, since the venue “is not prepared for it”. Dany Campos believes that “it would serve as a principle and as an emergency measure”, since some studies “must have continuity”. For this reason, the ideal thing for the director would be to build some ‘ad hoc’. “It is not necessary that they be huge, it is enough to enable a ship destined solely for this purpose.” In his opinion, these facilities, “modest at first, but always expandable”, would allow national production companies to satisfy the demand for technicians, who could be trained in Lorca, which they always need when they arrive at a location to shoot.
After classifying the proposal as “very positive”, the screenwriter Daniel Martínez Fajardo considers that these productions should be used as a tourist and cultural attraction, promoting the places where the films have been shot or will be shot.
