Thierry Neuville signs the eighth. The one obtained in Special Stage 15 of the Croatian Rally is the eighth scratch obtained this weekend, more than all those collected so far by the other drivers.
Therefore it is no coincidence that the Belgian is ahead of everyone in the general classification of the event, but his margin against his rivals continues to be small. The Toyotas of Elfyn Evans and Sébastien Ogier are tough nuts and probably the cars that best suit the Croatian special stages, but the Belgian is really putting on an excellent race.
In the 8.78 kilometer Vinski Vrh – Duga Resa 2, the Belgian ran with a mix of Hard and Soft tires (cross compounds) against the 4 Softs of his rivals, but he never had a sector in which he was slower than the others.
At the end of the test he did better than Ogier by 1″6, but also than Evans by 1″7. The gaps, as mentioned, are very small. But in such a short test it is still an important result, especially after the mockery of SS13, where Neuville found himself having to leave first position due to a shower of water which penalized him.
After this test, Neuville now has a 4 second lead on Evans and 11″1 on Ogier. All other positions continue to be crystallized. with Adrien Fourmaux unable to reduce his gap from Tanak to put his fourth position in doubt .
In WRC2 Nikolay Gryazin returns to do better – albeit slightly – than Yohan Rossel. The dry asphalt seems to favor the Russian, while in humid conditions it is the Frenchman who has an edge. Citroen, however, continues to enjoy the one-two that is materializing, with Gus Greensmith, Skoda driver, doing everything he can to recover the podium position lost due to a puncture.
