After the fear, a sigh of relief for him, for his family, for everyone. The “Dragon” fought, did not give up and, in the end, succeeded in his intent. Sandro Munari has returned home.
The 82-year-old from Veneto, winner of the 1976 WRC FIA Drivers Cup, was hospitalized at the Sant’Orsola Hospital in Bologna from 12 January in serious condition due to pneumonia not linked to COVID-19, but from a finished bite in the respiratory tract, which thus caused a nasty infection.
The news of his hospitalization was given by his wife Flavia with a heartfelt post on the Facebook group called “Munari-Mannucci fan club). As happened at the beginning of the month, also in this case it was his wife Flavia who gave the announcement of the return home of the “Dragon”.
“Today my boys and I had a wonderful gift: Sandro is back home”, Munari’s wife immediately wrote. “At the hospital they talked about a possible return, but without specifying (the timing), because there were always tests to check before making a decision to do so”.
In the post published by Ms. Flavia, Munari is seen tightly in his wife’s hands: “Here he is, pale and very thin, but indomitable. He looked at his house, walking up and down the corridor and immediately tried to his “before” fixed points: he shaved and had a snack “.
“I’m kind of stunned because I see him so worn out”, continued Flavia. “But they tell me he is strong and reacted to the disease with great stubbornness. He was in septicemia, he fought and defeated her. Great physique, this man! He also had wonderful ‘heavenly’ help from all over the world, because Christians, Buddhists and Muslims prayed for him. And God decided to listen to them and, once again, after a terrible ordeal, Sandro returned home. Welcome back to us, beloved champion! “.
So great news not only for the rally world, but for all motorsport in general. We too join Sandro’s wife, Signora Flavia, saying with joy: welcome back home, Drago!
