Charles III was officially proclaimed this Saturday the new king of the United Kingdom in succession to Elizabeth II, who died last Thursday at the age of 96 at the Scottish castle of Balmoral.
The ceremonial Ascension Council proclaimed Prince Charles as the new monarch Charles III, after which attendees said: “God save the king.”

World leaders have already begun to send their messages of support to the new king after his proclamation. Here are some of them.
Philip VI
The King of Spain, Felipe VI, congratulated Carlos III on Saturday after his proclamation as King of the United Kingdom and wished him a “fruitful and prosperous” reign, which contributes to the well-being of the British people and “to the strengthening of the already close relations” between the two countries.
In a message in English made public by the Casa del Rey shortly after the official proclamation ceremony, Felipe VI addressed “His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom, of Great Britain and Northern Ireland” and began with a “dear
Carlos”.

Queen Letizia and I wish to send Her Majesty and the Queen Consort our personal affection
Felipe VI sent him his most sincere congratulations and best wishes on his behalf, on behalf of the Government and on behalf of the Spanish people, on a day that he described as “historic” and “with the vivid memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, his beloved mother, still in our hearts and minds.
“Queen Letizia and I wish to send Her Majesty and the Queen Consort our personal affection and the guarantee of our deep friendship,” the message concludes.
The king and queen visited the residence of the UK ambassador to Spain on Saturday to sign the book of condolences open to the public in Madrid after the death of Elizabeth II.
Vladimir Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin also sent a congratulatory telegram to Carlos III after his official proclamation as the new monarch of the United Kingdom and fourteen Commonwealth countries in succession to Elizabeth II.
“Your Majesty: Receive my sincere congratulations on the occasion of your coronation. I wish your Majesty success, good health and the best,” the Russian president said in the message, quoted by the Kremlin.

European Union
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, congratulated Carlos III on Saturday after his proclamation and wished him a “successful and glorious reign”.
“Dear King Charles III, I congratulate you on your proclamation. As you assume your new duties, I wish you a successful and glorious reign,” Michel wrote on his official Twitter account.
The presidents of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, and of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, also visited the British Embassy in Belgium on Saturday to sign the book of condolences for the death of Queen Isabell II.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be deeply missed,” von der Leyen said on Twitter.
“For the people of Britain, he embodied the spirit of the nation. For all Europeans, he was a guarantee of certainty through the tumult of history. For me, he was an example of true leadership,” said the president of the Commission.
Metsola stressed that Elizabeth II’s “influence” extended “far beyond the shores of the United Kingdom.”
