The design of the Neom Stadium perfectly integrates with the aesthetics of The Line, the 170-kilometer-long linear city surrounded by reflective walls, with a vertical housing system, a high-speed railway and powered by 100% renewable energy.
Saudi Arabia recently unveiled plans for eleven football stadiums as part of its ambitious bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. One in particular has caught the eye for its innovative and futuristic design: the Neom Stadium, located in the dystopian smart city of Neom, more than 350 meters above the ground. The Neom Stadium stands out for its unique structure, characterized by polygonal shapes that make up the roof. These fragments create a mirror above the spectators, offering a breathtaking honeycomb view. With a capacity of 46,000, the stadium will run entirely on renewable energy, mainly wind and solar. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2032.
The design of Neom Stadium fits perfectly with the aesthetic of The Line, the 170-kilometer-long linear city surrounded by reflective walls, featuring vertical housing, a high-speed railway, and 100% renewable energy. However, the project has drawn criticism, especially for the use of force to evict villages along the construction route and the huge resources required to build it. Saudi Arabia has been accused of “sportswashing,” or improving its international image through major sporting events, such as the World Cup. Similar criticism has been leveled at plans to host the first Esports Olympic Games. In addition to Neom Stadium, Saudi Arabia plans to build the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium, a massive three-level structure set on the side of a cliff, surrounded by colored glass and LED screens.
