A tragedy marked the day at the works of the Interurban Train Mexico – Toluca in the Colonia Lomas de Santa Fe, Alvaro Obregón Mayor's Officewhere One worker died and another was seriously injured. after falling from a platform at a height of approximately 10 to 15 meters.
Emergency services received the report about the incident, stating that both men were unconscious and injured.
Tragically, upon arrival, they confirmed the death of a man about 35 years old. The other worker, 28 years old, was immediately taken to ABC Hospital due to severe trauma.
The situation became even more tense when the Mayor of Álvaro Obregón, Lía Limón, tried to access the accident site.
Despite the insistence of his team, the police from the Secretariat of Citizen Security prevented him from passing, arguing that he was not wearing a safety helmet. After some pushing and shoving, he was finally allowed entry by taking advantage of the arrival of a forensic ambulance.
Limón took advantage of the moment to express his condolences to the family of the deceased and to denounce the deficiencies in safety on the part of the construction company.
He demanded that the Mexico City government and the federal government stop the works until the implemented security measures are reviewed.
The Mayor emphasized that the accident occurred due to the lack of safety measures ordered by the standards established for works at heights.
He pointed out that the workers did not have harnesses or lifelines, and the work space was not properly delimited.
This unfortunate event revives concern about safety at the Interurban Train works, recalling previous incidents, such as the fall of a heavy structure in the vicinity of the Observatory Metro station last January.
Lía Limón made a forceful call to the responsible authorities and the construction company to take the necessary measures and guarantee the safety of the workers in these works, thus avoiding future tragedies to regret.
