The world of young people and that of volunteering met in the Involuntaria-Off project, promoted by the Msd Foundation, which ended today with the final event during which the winner of the ‘Word of volunteer’ initiative was awarded, the Path for transversal skills and orientation (Pcto) on the topic of volunteering for high schools in Lazio, sponsored by the Lazio Region and the Lazio Region Council.
The virtuous path that the MSD Foundation has been promoting for 3 years now – we read in a note – aims to tell young people about volunteering, exploring ever new and engaging languages, such as the social contest: first the short movie for the Involuntary-Off TV, by to which the patient associations signed the script; then the series for social media ‘Volunteer for a day’, which gave the actors an experience as real volunteers in the associations’ offices, and today ‘Word of a volunteer’ which involved patient associations in the training of tomorrow’s volunteers . Passionate representatives of the project’s partner associations shared their experience, their expertise and their commitment to supporting people experiencing illness, their families and caregivers in many different areas (oncology, HIV, rare diseases, hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory diseases and many others). The students also met with experts from the world of communication to learn more about tools and languages for telling young people, also and above all through social media, about empathy and the value of volunteering.
The event was an opportunity for a reflection on the importance of social solidarity in the area of health and in the human and professional development paths of the new generations together with Gennaro Iasevoli, vice-rector of research and internationalization of Lumsa University, and Goffredo Freddi, director of the MSD Foundation. During the meeting Adriano Valentini, Head of Institutional Communication for the Lazio Region, and Andrea Nuzzo, Content Creator, explored the strategic role of communication and appropriate languages to promote important social issues such as volunteering. In the contest that concluded the training course, the kids got involved, challenging themselves to come up with a creative proposal – inspired by one of the associations they encountered – to be conveyed on social media, to encourage other young people to approach volunteering.
Over 60 papers presented; 7 made it to the shortlist of finalists after a careful selection by the jury made up of all the patient associations, the MSD Foundation, academic and institutional partners: the project of the Parola group of students from the Vittoria Colonna high school, which was inspired by the Plus Association ; the project of the Sofiotta group of the Giovan Battista Morgagni Scientific High School, which talked about the CittadinanzAttiva Association; the proposal for the ABRCAdaBRA Association of the Abracadabra group of the Liceo Ginnasio Statale Orazio; the creative idea of the Awareness together group of the Vittoria Colonna high school, dedicated to the APaIM Association; the project of the IncontraDonna group, of the Angelo Frammartino Institute of Higher Education, for the IncontraDonna Foundation; the proposal of the La Ciurma del Liceo Vittoria Colonna group, for Salute Donna Odv; the creative idea of Andrea, a student at the Angelo Frammartino Institute of Higher Education in Monterotondo, for Anlaids.
It was precisely this last proposal that won the highest number of votes: Andrea imagined, in a video inspired by Anlaids, a conversation via chat between two friends in which he talks about the value of the support offered to patients by an association that deals with infectious diseases and the emotional involvement of those involved.
“The MSD Foundation – declared Goffredo Freddi, director of the MSD Foundation – is proud of this path of sharing and contamination which has united schools, patient associations, universities and institutions for a noble purpose: to promote extraordinary civil energy, leveraging the incredible potential for change and transformation of school education, youth and alliances”. The high schools involved in the PCTO are: Angelo Frammartino Institute of Higher Education (Monterotondo, Rome), Giovan Battista Morgagni Scientific High School (Rome), Ripetta Artistic High School (Rome), Vittoria Colonna High School (Rome) and Orazio State Gymnasium High School (Rome), Celestino Rosatelli Institute of Higher Education (Rieti).
