At 35 years of age, Daniel Noboa becomes the youngest president in the country’s history. He will have to face a nation immersed in a multiple crisis, with security being the greatest concern of Ecuadorians due to the escalation of violence that is plaguing the country.
The businessman obtained the support mostly from the mountain region, including the province of Pichincha, which is home to the Ecuadorian capital, Quito. The Amazon region and the Insular region also supported it. While the Ecuadorian coast voted for Luisa González.
Of the 13.4 million Ecuadorians who were eligible to vote, ten million people participated. The businessman garners 4.6 million votes, while the candidate for Correism obtains 4.2 million votes, with 85% of the minutes counted. The null vote reaches 7.76%.
Even before the National Electoral Council officially declared Noboa the winner of the elections, Luisa González recognized his defeat, as well as the victory of his rival at the polls, whom he congratulated.
Noboa will have a Government until May 2025, less than a year and a half, after the current president, Guillermo Lasso, decided to dissolve the National Assembly and call these early elections.
