Microsoft said that each update for Windows will have an expiration date. This is reported on website companies.
According to Kristin Ahonen, the head of the communications program and the Windows service group, Microsoft will change the practice of distributing system updates. So, current operating systems will receive two or three small security updates every month. Moreover, if the user misses the update, he will not be able to install it after a certain time.
This measure is due to the fact that the consumer who missed the series of updates does not have to download all the accumulated updates to his PC. The user will only need to download the most recent version, which contains all the necessary changes. This should facilitate the user experience and the work of system administrators.
At the same time, old operating systems that are no longer up-to-date will continue to receive all security updates. However, updates for them will be released less frequently – about once a month. These operating systems include Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Servers 2008 SP2, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012.
At the end of September, Microsoft said that updates for Windows will be reduced in size. Thanks to optimization, the company was able to reduce the size of updates by about 40 percent.
