PS5 Pro will support upscaling via AI? We don't have confirmation at the moment, but a new comment from AMD has led some to believe so.
Speaking to the YouTube channel “No Priors: AI, Machine Learning, Tech, & Startups” in a new interview, Mark Papermaster, Chief Technology Officer of AMDtalked about what the company has in store for AI, saying that 2024 is a big year for AMD.
He said 2024 is also a big rollout year for the company, which is enabling its gaming devices to upscale with AI, hinting that devices available or launching this year will be able to do it. This statement seems to suggest that PlayStation 5 Prowhich we remember has not yet been officially confirmed by Sony but which according to rumors will arrive during 2024, will actually be equipped with AI upscaling.
Obviously for now it's more of one speculationshould not be considered as confirmation.
PS5 Pro, the rumors
Previous rumors have pointed the finger towards the use of AI for upscaling on PS5 Pro. According to sources (i.e. a well-known AMD leaker), however, the function would run on GPU, as the APU that is said to be used by the new Sony console will not have any NPU.
We will have to wait for future confirmations or denials.
It also seems that the specifications of the PS5 Pro are already known to PlayStation Studios and the second parts.
