We are getting closer and closer to the release of Matrix Resurrections, scheduled for 1 January 2023 in Italian cinemas, but already on the upper floors we are talking about a hypothetical Matrix 5, which could see the light only if the director Lana Wachowski wanted to do so, according to the words of Warner Bros.
Last month the first trailer of the fourth chapter of the famous cyberpunk saga was released, 18 years after the third chapter, Matrix Revolutions. The anticipation was felt a lot, as filming began in San Francisco in February 2020 but due to the pandemic, as well as for many other films, in March the works were interrupted and then resumed in August.
To promote the movie, the old WhatIsTheMatrix.com website was brought back to life, creating a page where you could choose between the red pill and the blue pill to access two different videos of a few seconds that anticipated what we would see in the official trailer a few days later.
On the occasion of the new film, the CEO of WarnerMedia, Jason Kilar, was interviewed by Deadline. According to the man, Matrix Resurrections was “originally intended to be a reboot of the series on the big screen“.
Matrix Resurrection, with Dunes, are part of a hybrid strategy of Warner Bros., i.e. the films are released simultaneously on the big screen in theaters and on the streaming platform HBO Max. When asked about a possible influence of this double exit on Matrix 5, Kilar replied that it will depend primarily on Lana Wachowski.
If Lana wants to make a film, she can count on all of us.
Keanu Reeves will return to play the role of Neo, while Carrie-Ann Moss will return as Trinity. In addition to the return of Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, the cast also sees Neil Patrick harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra and Christina Ricci.
