When it comes to new castings for those characters not yet introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fan curiosity is always tied to who will be the next interpreter of Wolverine. Hugh Jackman played the character for twenty years appearing in nine films in the X-Men film seriesbut now the future of Wolverine’s character is uncertain even though a name that often recurs is that of Daniel Radcliffe.
The actor, famous for playing Harry Potter in the saga of the same name, is at the top of the fan list as Wolverine’s next performer but, while he appreciates that support, he recently stated that he doesn’t think Marvel will choose him for the rolealthough it is open to such an eventuality.
Speaking with colleagues from ComicBook at the premiere of his new movie, The Lost CityDaniel Radcliffe said he appreciates that fans want a “short guy” to play Wolverine, in line with the canon of comicsbut what Marvel has not currently contacted him and believes it will not:
So many times, people come to me like and say, “Hey man, I’ve heard the news from Wolverine, that’s really cool.” No, I don’t know anything about it. For example, I appreciate that someone is clearly saying “Wolverine is really short in the comics, you have to be a short guy to play him”. But I don’t see them go from Hugh Jackman to me. But who knows? Prove me wrong, Marvel.
In 2019, the actor explained that his love for movies of the X-Men actually makes its willingness to appear in a reboot a little less likely:
Most of the movies I love, I wouldn’t want to see them redone. And I certainly don’t think I want to be a part of these reboots or remakes.
Currently, therefore, there is no news regarding Wolverine’s future in the cinema, but it probably won’t be long before Marvel and Disney announce who the new character will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
