Last week, the level of infection with the Corona virus decreased by 40% as the level of herd immunity in Russia decreased.
And the Russian immunologist, Vladimir Polibok, said in an interview with the Russian newspaper, “Vechernaya Moskva”, that talking about the end of the epidemic is premature because Europe is still experiencing new waves of the Corona virus.
He noted that the disease has not gone away and we can face another wave of it. It is also difficult to predict how quickly it will pass, given that European countries are experiencing high activity of the ‘Omicron BA.2’ mutant.
Pollibok said the number of people infected with omicron now is comparable to what it was at the height of the delta wave. But far fewer are hospitalized. For example, for every 41 thousand infected with the “delta” mutation, 1200 deaths. In the case of “Omicron”, there are only 700 deaths out of 200 thousand infected with it.
According to Polebok, Denmark is now witnessing the conclusion of a second wave after its outbreak in December, and the wave is accompanied by a high number of deaths. As for Singapore, it witnessed the peak of the “Omicron” wave last February. On March 9, 40,000 people were infected every day.
While the doctor ruled out that the Corona virus this year would become a seasonal disease. This could happen in 2023, provided that no new strains appear, knowing that the Corona virus has demonstrated a good ability to evade immunity.
