Find the validation of El Cazamentiras at the end of the news.
After an investigation, the Department of Motor Vehicles California (DMV) temporarily suspended Cruise’s license, autonomous vehicle subsidiary of General Motors. The objective of the measure is to carry out additional tests on its operation in the city of San Francisco, following a recent incident.
According to a press release that was published on the agency’s official website, there were violations in four items of the permits, so it was decided to temporarily revoke them until the safety of operation was verified. The trigger was the aforementioned accident involving a hit-and-run pedestrian.
The accident that led to Cruise’s suspension in California
The event occurred in the city of San Francisco on October 2. According to what the company stated and replied Telemundo, a woman ran a red light and was hit by a hit-and-run car. The problem with autonomous taxis occurred because the victim of the incident was left lying in the Cruise route.
The robotaxi was making a trip along that road and the woman’s body was trapped under the vehicle and was dragged for a few meters. The reason for the suspension was not only the fact, but also the attitude that the company took afterwards. According to DMV, not all video footage was immediately sent for review.
However, the official statement is not definitive and clarifies that the suspension is temporary. By carrying out the corresponding tests on the operation and safety of the autonomous taxis indicated, Cruise will be able to obtain California authorization again and return to operating without problems in San Francisco in the short term.
