Today, Monday, the World Health Organization declared the end of the last Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The disease broke out in the province of Equateur, where the first case was recorded on April 23.
In all, four confirmed cases and one suspected case were recorded. According to the World Health Organization, all patients died as a result of the disease.
In the previous outbreak in the region between June and November 2020, a total of 130 cases were detected and 55 people died.
This is the 14th time since 1976 that an Ebola outbreak has occurred in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has a population of 90 million.
Between 2014 and 2016, the largest ever outbreak of the disease occurred in West Africa, and more than 11,000 people died.
